YOUR LECTURE
In this course you will learn about all essential concepts of
Software Engineering
and its "king discipline"
Software Architecture, which
are relevant in practice — from the specific perspective of
the software industry.
The course consists of 10 lecture modules, each 3 hours long, compressed into
just 5 consecutive weeks in 2024/Q4 of WS24/25.
Additionally, consultation hours are offered once per week.
This course is based on the lecture concept
Multimedia Didactics,
which partly was developed in the context of this course
and for which the
lecturer received the
Balzert-Preis 2023
of the
Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI)
"for his outstanding contribution to the teaching of Computer Science."
YOUR LECTURER
Your lecturer,
Dr. Ralf S. Engelschall, is CTO of the
msg und director of
msg Research, a
cross division for
Technology, Methodology and Strategy within the msg group of companies, which
have a history of over 40 years, a size of over 10.000 people and an annual revenue of over
1 billion Euro. He is also one of the founders and CEO of the
Software Engineering
Academy (SEA), a non-profit organization to support the teaching of Software Engineering
and Software Architecture.
As a Software Architect and
Software Developer of countless applications, tools,
libraries and frameworks your lecturer
also looks back on more than 30 years of experience in the industrial development of
Custom Software and of over 25 years of development of
Open Source Software.
Your lecturer is also one of the founders of the
Apache Software Foundation (ASF).
If you want to know more personal aspects about your lecturer,
check out an
interview with him.
YOUR PARTICIPATION
The course, except for the final exam, exclusively happens
online.
Here, two different types of communication are used, each of which deliberately optimizes a different
aspect of the course.
On the one hand, high-resolution 1080p30 video streams are used for the lectures to combine the
lecturer, content, and a
Head-Up-Display (HUD).
The lectures are delivered
as
YouTube Live Events in broadcasting format and with
a latency of about 2 seconds, where
the display quality and features are optimized.
For technical reasons, you cannot have a direct voice interaction with the lecturer,
but with the help of the application
HUDS Pad,
which is displayed in addition to the video stream, during the lectures you can
use text messages for raising your questions, participate in the quizzes, give
feedback via emojis and share your personal challenge and mood situation.
On the other hand, interactive
Microsoft Teams Meetings
are used, where your lecturer is delivered as a low-latency 360p30 video stream and the content is delivered separately
as a high-resolution 1080p30 video stream. Here the
direct personal communication is optimized, which is especially important
for the consultation hours.
